Soccer great Peter Fregene’s wife is seeking a lifeline for her ailing husband.
The former Green Eagles first choice goalie has been battling stroke for 18 years.
An emotional Mrs. Tina Fregene told The Nation last night that her husband requires help urgently to save him from dying.
According to her, the condition of the 71-year-old man got worse 12 days ago. A photograph of Fregene being fed on his bed surfaced online recently.

Senate President contest : Not a do or die affair – Lawan
Ahead of the inauguration of the Ninth Senate and the election of a new Senate President, the Senate Leader, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, yesterday said the battle for the exalted position is not a do-or-die affair.

Sudan’s military junta suspends talks with protesters
Sudan’s military rulers on Wednesday suspended crucial talks with protesters on installing civilian rule, insisting that negotiations will resume only after demonstrators remove roadblocks put up in parts of Khartoum, protest leaders said.
The suspension came after at least eight people were reported wounded by gunshots near a sit-in in the capital, shortly before decisive talks were to be held between the ruling military council and the protest leaders on a transitional governing body.

Arrest of sex workers, criminalisation of poverty – NHRC
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has decried the recent arrest of sex workers and closure of brothels in Umuahia, the Abia capital, on the orders of the state government.
Ms Uche Nwokocha, the Coordinator of NHRC in Abia, described the action as as “the criminalisation of poverty” by the government and its agencies.
Nwokocha said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia on Wednesday.
NAN reports that the state government had ordered the immediate shutdown of some brothels in the state capital, alleging that they had become hideouts for crminials.

Modern day slavery cases rise by 36% in Britain – Reports
Reports of suspected modern slavery in Britain rose by more than a third in 2018, according to government data released on Tuesday, but campaigners said even that was likely only “the tip of the iceberg”.
Police, charities and other first responders referred 6,993 potential modern slavery cases to the government’s National Referral Mechanism (NRM) last year, 36% more than in 2017, Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) said in its annual report.
The NRM is a national scheme whereby victims are identified and can receive support ranging from healthcare and housing to legal aid.
