Palm oil producers cry out over declining price

The National Palm Produce Association of Nigeria (NPPAN) has raised alarm over downward slide in price of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and local demand in spite of their huge investments.

The group raised the alarm in a letter jointly signed by Mr Dele Olanubi, NPPAN Ambassador, Mr Bolarinwa Adetula, Chairman Ondo Chapter and Chief Abiodun Adejo, Oyo State Coordinator.

The letter, addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and entitled `SOS to the Federal Government on illegal entry of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) into Nigeria’, hinged the problem on illegal entry of CPO into Nigeria.

Actor Jim Iyke welcomes baby boy

Veteran Nigerian actor, James Ikechukwu popularly known as Jim Iyke has welcomed a baby boy.

The 42-year-old who started his acting career in 2001 is one of the highest paid actors in Nollywood.

Popularly known for playing “lover boy” roles, the actor took to Instagram to announce the arrival of his son.

He wrote: “I’m ultra-private with my family but this is the rarest of moments.

10m Euros for new malaria drug

The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) has given a grant of €10 million over five years to “WANECAM 2” to conclude production of new malaria drug.

WANECAM 2 is a unique collaboration between antimalarial drug researchers in Africa and Europe from ten academic institutions, a pharmaceutical company, Novartis, and a not-for-profit product development partnership (PDP), Medicines for Malaria Venture.

The grant will support African trials of a novel antimalarial combination comprising KAF156 (ganaplacide) and lumefantrine in a new once-daily formulation.

KAF156 has demonstrated the potential to treat resistant malaria and to be administered as a single dose.…

Tinubu speaks on rumoured 2023 presidency bid

A former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress has panned the reports that he is backing Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila to become Nigeria’s Senate president and Speaker respectively for selfish reasons.

Bola Tinubu’s critics say his backing for Lawan and Gbajabiamila, both of whom were endorsed by the party, was to shore up his chances of becoming the ruling party’s presidential candidate in 2023.

But Tinubu said he only aligned with the party wishes on whom become the leaders of Nigeria’s National Assembly in June.

Ukraine Presidency: Comedian Zelensky wins in landslide

A comedian with no political experience won a landslide victory in Ukraine’s presidential election on Sunday, exit polls showed, dealing a stunning rebuke to the country’s political establishment.

Volodymyr Zelensky, whose only previous political role was playing the president in a TV show, trounced incumbent Petro Poroshenko by taking 73 percent of the vote, according to exit polls conducted by several think tanks.

It was an extraordinary outcome to a campaign that started as a joke but struck a chord with voters frustrated by poverty, corruption and a five-year war in eastern Ukraine that has claimed some 13,000 lives.
