University lecturers used to manipulate 2019 polls – Jega

Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega, yesterday came down hard on university lecturers for allegedly conniving with politicians to undermine the integrity and outcome of this year’s general elections.He regretted that the dons facilitated the faulty recruitment process of the political class during the polls, thus betraying the confidence the electoral body reposed in them.Teachers of Bayero University Kano (BUK) had severally come under stern criticisms for their roles in the last governorship election in the state.

Ex-president Alan Garcia commits suicide over arrest

Peru’s former president Alan Garcia died in hospital on Wednesday after shooting himself in the head at his home as police were about to arrest him in a sprawling corruption case. He was 69.

The health ministry said Garcia died at 10:05 am (1505 GMT) of “a massive cerebral hemorrhage from a gunshot wound and cardiorespiratory arrest.”

Garcia was resuscitated three times after suffering heart attacks while undergoing emergency surgery, before finally succumbing, Peru’s Health Minister Zulema Tomas said.

The Casimiro Ulloa Emergency Hospital in Lima earlier confirmed he had suffered “a bullet wound to his head.”

US sanctions Venezuela’s Central Bank

The United States on Wednesday said it would forbid all Americans’ dealings with the Central Bank of Venezuela and also block any US assets of the the bank, as well as its director, Iliana Josefa Ruzza Teran.

America alleged that the bank was being used as key conduits for funding Maduro’s government.

The sanctions were the latest efforts by the US to strangle President Nicolas Maduro’s cash flow.

Gospel artiste sued for allegedly stealing of Petrol

A 36-year-old  gospel musician, Ajibola Oyetunde, who allegedly stole his employer’s 45,000  litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) valued at N8 million,  on Wednesday appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Oyetunde, whose lives at No. 2 Aruawe St., Aradangun in Badagry, is charged with three counts of conspiracy and stealing.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Police Counsel, Sgt. Michael Unah, told the court that the defendant allegedly stole the PMS worth N8 million from the complainant, Mr Idowu Adeyemi.

BREAKING: Golden Eaglets qualify for World Cup

Nigeria’s U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets have qualified for the World Cup holding later in the year in Brazil.

The Manu Garba-tutored boys defeated Angola 1-0 in Tanzania at the ongoing Africa qualifiers.

The only goal was scored in the first half through a penalty.

Actor Ik Ogbonna threatens to sue Vlogger for defamation

Nigerian actor, Ik Ogbonna is set to sue a Nigerian video blogger based in the United States, Joyce Boakye also known as Bold Pink (on instagram) for defamation of character.

Ogbonna, through his lawyers is demanding an apology from the vlogger after her comments on his sexuality set social media on “fire” a few days ago.

In her video, the vlogger accused Ogbonna of being gay and charged him to “please kindly come out of the closet.

Atiku, PDP show video to prove use of server for polls

INEC server: Atiku calls Microsoft, IBM, Oracle to testify

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, is insistent that the Independent National Electoral Commission stored election results in a server and has said he will call Microsoft, IBM and Oracle experts to testify that he defeated Jubril (President Muhammadu Buhari) by over 1.6 million votes.

Atiku gave the server name as INEC_PRES_RSLT_SRV2019 and its unique Mac address as 94-57-A5-DC-64-B9 with Microsoft Product ID 00252-70000-0000-AA535, in his fresh response to the reply of INEC to his petition.
