IGP orders probe of slain NSCDC staff

Acting Inspector-General of Police IGP Mohammed Adamu has ordered speedy investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of an Assistant Superintendent of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ogar Jumbo.

The slain officer was allegedly beaten and killed by policemen in Nyanya area of Abuja during the week.

The Police chief also assured that there will be no cover up in the investigation.

The Police, in a statement in Abuja by the Force Spokesman, ACP Frank Mba assured the families of the deceased that everything humanly possible will be done to ensure justice prevails in the case.

Obaseki rejects borehole, toilets as constituency projects

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said that Edo people would no longer accept boreholes and toilets as constituency projects from lawmakers elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Governor Obaseki said he would not allowed duplication of projects as well as projects not worth N500m from National Assembly members.

Obaseki, who spoke at a reception for APC members and supporters to celebrate the success of the party at the general elections in the state.

He said he would hold interactive sessions with the lawmakers in the National Assembly on a monthly basis to review their projects.…

Unease in Kano, Sokoto, Plateau, Bauchi, Benue

Voters in parts of Kano, Sokoto, Plateau, Benue and Bauchi are heading back to the polling centres today eager to end days of apprehension caused by the March 9 inconclusive governorship and state assembly elections.

Although, the elections will take place in only a few parts of the affected states, the security agencies are leaving nothing to chances.

The Police yesterday announced a total restriction of vehicular and human movement in Kano and Plateau states.

Security is also being beefed up at flashpoints in Benue State with a view to protecting lives property and electoral materials.

Facebook faces yet another privacy flap

This time, the company acknowledges that it mishandled sensitive passwords for hundreds of millions of its users, primarily those who use its Facebook Lite product. The disclosure casts doubt on the company’s abilities to protect its users’ information as it focuses more on privacy.

On Thursday, Facebook (FB) said it didn’t properly mask the passwords of hundreds of millions of its users and stored them as plain text in an internal database that could be accessed by its staff.

The General Overseer of Gloryland Church, Pastor Ekene Samuel, has been arrested for impregnating and procuring abortion for a teenage member of his church identified as Miracle.

Different charms were also found at the residence of Pastor Ekene.

Police said Pastor Ekene charmed and had sex with the 17 years old Miracle in December 2018.

Mobile policeman rapes ATM user at gun point

A mobile policeman in Anambra State, has been detained for allegedly defiling a 35-year-old lady in the premises of one of the new generation banks.

The victim (name withheld) was said to have gone to make some transactions at the bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) in the night when the incident occurred.

Confirming the report, Commissioner of police, Rabiu Ladodo, said the command was still investigating the matter.

He said the command would make the report public after investigation being handled by the state Criminal investigation Department CID, Awka.

Gov. Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State has dismissed the claim by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he won the presidential election in Kaduna state.

Jubril (President Muhammadu Buhari) was declared winner of the Feb. 23 presidential election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) having polled 15,191,847 votes, winning in 19 states, to defeat 72 other candidates, including Atiku Abubakar, who scored 11,255,978 votes.

Buhari won in 19 states including Kaduna, Kogi, Niger and Gombe as against Atiku, who won in 17 states and the FCT to occupy the second position.

‘Anambra reiterates promise to pay ₦30,000 minimum wage’

The Anambra Head of Service, Mr Harry Udu, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment toward implementing the new minimum wage as promised.

The head of service made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Friday.

He said the implementation would help motivate civil servants in the state to performing their duties optimally.

Osun election: APC rejects tribunal’s verdict

The All Progressives Congress in the State of Osun has rejected the verdict of the Election Petition Tribunal that declared Ademola Adeleke the winner of the 2018 governorship election in the state.

In a statement signed by the Osun APC director of publicity, research and strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, APC cast doubts on the verdict, noting it will not hold water when contested.

“The verdict cannot stand superior legal scrutiny. Therefore we will appeal against it,” the statement said.
