Gunmen kidnap policeman, others in Edo

A police officer simply identified as DSP Godwin and four other persons have been abducted by gunmen at Ubiaja, headquarters of Esan South East local government area.

DSP Godwin was travelling to Asaba when the vehicle he was travelling in was stopped by the gunmen who were on the road apparently for kidnapping.

Police sources said DSP Godwin and others were taken into the bush.

The source said a Pastor who was travelled along the same route was shot and is receiving treatment in a hospital.

INEC withholds Return Certificates for 4 Delta Legislators

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday denied certificates of return to four House of Assembly members- elect in Delta State over pending court matters.

However, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his Deputy Kingsley Otuaro along with 24 other members-elect were given certificates of return.

National Commissioner in charge of Delta State, Dr Mohammed Lecky, confirmed the development while presenting certificates of return to successful candidates.

Two hospitalised as fire ravages Lagos community

A woman and a young boy were injured yesterday when  fire swept through the Hausa community in Orile-Agege, Lagos.

They are at the Agege General Hospital.

The fire, said to have been caused by power surge, raged for several hours, destroying shops, houses and goods.

OPERATIVES of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Ibadan Zonal Office have arrested six `Yahoo’ boys and recovered five different models of exotic cars and  laptops.

The Acting Head, Media and Publicity of the commission, Mr Tony Orilade, who broke the news yesterday in Abuja Tuesday, said other items recovered from the suspects include mobile phones and documents containing false information.

Edo grants clemency, parole to 84 prisoners

The Edo State Government has granted clemency and parole to 84 inmates in various prison formations in the state, in alignment with the Federal Government’s commitment to decongest prisons across the country.

Edo State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, said the move has the backing of Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Salihu Isah, with the aim of tackling overcrowding in Nigerian Prisons.
