Discharged from LUTH, Baba Suwe seeks further care abroad

Comedian Babatunde Omidina aka Baba Suwe who was critically ill and on admission at the University of Lagos Teach Hospital, LUTH, has been discharged.

The news was revealed by actor Yomi Fabiyi through an Instagram post. He also said that Baba Suwe would proceed for further treatment abroad.

“Veteran Actor and Comedian Babatunde Omidina a.k.a Baba Suwe has been discharged from LUTH after intense medical treatment,” he wrote on Saturday.

Katsina earmarks ₦196m for orphans, women empowerment

The Katsina State government has committed the sum of N196 million to assuage the plight of women and vulnerable children through its Women Empowerment Programme across the 34 local governments of the state for the 2019 fiscal year.

The state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Badiyya Hassan Mashi, who disclosed this Sunday, said lack of economic sustainability did not only have a devastating emotional effect on vulnerable households, but the situation was also capable of exposing the individual to several risks, hence the gesture.

Fake news worsening election violence – Lt.-Gen Buratai

The Chief of Army Staff (CAS), Lt.-Gen Tukur Buratai, at the weekend in Bayelsa State, lamented that fake news is worsening violence during elections in the country and putting military operations in jeopardy.

The army chief, who spoke when he visited the 16 Brigade Camp Tukur Buratai, Elebele, in the outskirts of Yenagoa, the state capital, noted that the army set up a situation room real-time, commanded by its cyber warfare unit, to deal with the menace decisively during the last polls.

PDP accuses INEC chairman of bias

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu, of refusing the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar access to election materials.

Mallam El-Rufai condemns fresh killings in Kaduna community

The Kaduna State Government has condemned the killing of nine people by suspected fulani herdsmen in Nandu Gbok village in Sanga Local Government Area of the state.

Sources in the community however said 10 people were killed in the attack which occurred at about 4:00am on Saturday.

Two policemen shot in Bayelsa Senator’s hotel

Suspected gunmen have again ravaged Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, shooting two policemen in a popular hotel and killing another at the Joepal Shopping mall in Amarata.

Also, the hoodlums carted away two rifles belonging to the cops, before shooting in the air to scare away passersby.

THE Imam of one of the Christchurch, New Zealand mosques attacked by a terrorist on Friday is a Nigerian, The Nation can report today.

Lateef Alabi who is the Linwood mosque’s acting Imam was leading the congregation in prayers on the fateful day when terrorist Brenton Tarrant struck.

Alabi said the death toll would have been far higher at the mosque but for a worshipper, Abdul Aziz, 48, who  grabbed Tarrant’s gun and forced him away from a mosque.

Again, 10 attacked, killed in Kaduna

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Saturday attacked Nandu -Gbok village in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna state, killing 10 people.
About 30 houses were also reported to have been burnt down by the bandits.
Similar attacks on many communities in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state in the past one week had claimed over 100 lives, with hundreds of the people displaced.
