APC, PDP fight over ploy to buy votes with Abacha loot

The All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State yesterday exchanged verbal invectives over PDP’s allegations that the ruling party reserved recovered loot for vote-buying.

The opposition said the ruling party allegedly perfected plans to use the recovered loot from the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, to buy votes in the forthcoming polls, use security operatives to rig the elections and use officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to perpetrate electoral fraud.

Naira remains stable at ₦358 per dollar in parallel market

The Naira yesterday was stable at N358 per dollar in the parallel. However, the naira depreciated by 41kobo in the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window. Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for the window rose to N361.95 per dollar from N361.54 per dollar last week Friday translating to 41 kobo depreciation of the naira.

The depreciation was due to a 65 percent decline in volume of dollars traded which fell to $113.86 million from $328.4 million last week Friday.

Suit seeking disqualification of Atiku’s presidential bid

A group known as the Incorporated Trustees of Egalitarian Mission for Africa, is requesting the Federal High Court Abuja, to disqualify the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, from contesting the February 16 presidential election.

The group alleged irregularities in the citizenship of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Mr. Kayode Ajulo, filed the suit on behalf of the group seeking an interpretation of Sections 25(1) & (2) and 131(a) of the 1999 Constitution.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential campaign, Monday went wrong as hoodlums greeted  Jubril being paraded as President Muhammadu Buhari and the party’s national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole with stones at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta. Violence erupted as Oshiomhole was invited to the podium for his speech.

Angola decriminalises homosexuality

The Angolan Parliament voted to abolish the abolish the legislation criminalizing homosexuality which dated back to 1886, when the country was still under the colonial rule of the Portuguese.

With the recent act of parliament, every discrimination based on sexual orientation in the country has been banned; and People who refuse to hire others because of their sexual orientation can now face up to two years in prison.
