Number of presidential candidates in Nigeria shocks Banda

A former President of Zambia, Rupia Banda has expressed shock at the number of candidates for Saturday’s Presidential election in Nigeria, saying the figure of 73 candidates near the total number of the Zambian Parliament.

He spoke Thursday in Abuja at a meeting with the management team of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The former Zambian president is the head of  the Electoral  Institute of South Africa, (EISA) which has since deployed 30 international observers for tomorrow’s exercise.

Nearly 100 Million Nigerians now living in extreme poverty

Over 91 million Nigerians are now living in extreme poverty, according to the report of World Poverty Clock, a Vienna, Austria-based data lab The report said at least three million Nigerians have slipped into extreme poverty between November 2018 and February 2019. According to the report, 91.16 million Nigerians were living below a dollar a day as of February 13, 2019.

Gov. Shettima explains why Boko Haram attacked his convoy

Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima yesterday explained why Boko Haram insurgents swooped on his convoy on Tuesday, killing three civilians and a soldier.

The governor said the attack was a mere propaganda strategy by the insurgents to attract global media attention and instill fear in citizens and troops.

Shettima, who reacted through his Special Adviser on Media & Strategy, Isa Gusau, sympathised with those who lost their loved ones in the attack.
